Obituary for Elva L. Piehn
Elva L. Piehn, age 106, passed away on June 29, 2023 in Freeport, IL.
Elva was born on May 3, 1917 to George and Sada (Rath) Lee in Alpena, SD. The family moved to central Illinois when she was a child. She graduated from high school and went on to marry Orville Piehn on December 20, 1935. They spent their 66 years of marriage living in both Illinois and Minnesota. After her husband’s passing in January of 2001, Elva decided to move to NH with her son Gary and daughter-in-law Julie. She returned to Illinois in October, 2015 to live with her grandchildren until this past May, when she became a resident of Manor Court at Liberty Village.
Elva was a member of the United Church of Christ, Freeport, IL and the Plymouth Congregational Church, Plymouth, NH. Elva spent most of her life volunteering for several organizations. While living in New Hampshire she volunteered for “Meals for Many”, an organization that fed those in need. She was awarded the Service Volunteer of the Year award for her countless hours of preparing and cooking the food that was served.
Elva is survived by her son Gary (Julie) Piehn, Thornton, NH; her grandsons – Jack Piehn of Freeport and Scott (Misty) Piehn of Freeport, IL; granddaughters – Karin (Jack) Duchow of Columbus, IN, Jennifer (Phillip Platt) Smith of Long Beach, MS and Nicole (Brett) Goldberg of Port Washington, NY; 9 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and nieces and nephews.
Preceding Elva in death were her parents, husband, siblings and one great grandchild.
