Eloise J. Barber

Eloise Jayne Barber 88 of Freeport, IL, sadly left us on July 2, 2024 after a life richly lived in service and kindness.

Eloise lived in Freeport for 55 years and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. Chapter IY and several other charity organizations. She was a Living Arts and Home Economics teacher at Carl Sandburg School, part owner of The Unicorn and professional calligrapher. Eloise was an accomplished pianist, singer and painter.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Barber, with whom she traveled the world before his death in 2009, daughter Denisha Jayne and stepdaughter Claire Jackoway.

She is survived by her children, Eric Slaughter (Shelley) of St. Louis, MO, Lisa Folgate (Steve) of Orangeville, IL, Jana Van Kirk (Kelly) of Los Angeles, CA and Stepdaughter Cathy Wiggins (Steve) of Seneca, SC. Also, 7 grandchildren Patrick, Sunshine, Scott, Amy, Sarah, Ryan and Caitlin, 4 great-grandchildren Jazmine, Emilee, Johnny, Charlotte and great-great-grandson Ozzy.

Her memory will be a guiding light for all who knew her. A service will be held at a later date.
