Elmer 'Jim' Simler, 83, of Freeport died Wednesday in F.H.N. Memorial Hospital, Freeport. Jim was born December 30, 1927 in Freeport, Illinois the son of Eddie and Harriet (Spielman) Simler. He married Klasina 'Kay' Klinger on October 14, 1950 in Freeport. She died October 7, 1989. Mr. Simler was a lifetime Local 325 Teamster member. He was a 30 year employee of Civil, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Freeport Eagles Club 679 and a former member of the Germania Club. Jim enjoyed bowling and golfing, going to the casino and following the Cubs and Bears. Mr. Simler is survived by Three brothers, Ronald (Lynette) Simler of Portland, Ore., Jerry (Sharon) Simler of Freeport and Richard (Linda) Simler of Florida. Two sisters, Virginia Jonas of Rockford and June Miller of Freeport. Many nieces and nephews and his special friend, Rose Maltry. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Robert and Dale and his sister, Joyce Shade. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11:00 A.M. in Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Rev. Bill Blomberg will officiate. There will be a Eagles Club service at 10:45 A.M. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until time of service at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home.
