Ellis "Harvey" Pugh, departed this life on Monday August 8, 2016 at 5:35 A.M., at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born February 28, 1935 in West, MS to Elliot Pugh and Maggie Riley. He attended West Consolidated Schools. He moved to Chicago, IL, and then to Freeport, IL. Ellis was united in Holy Matrimony to Kay Taylor on April 16, 1962 in Chicago, IL. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Leslie and Anthony Pugh, and two daughters Andrian Allen, and Lezzette Green. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age and became a member of West Baptist Church. Upon moving to Freeport, he became a member of Evangelistic Church of God in Christ. Ellis loved watching football, baseball, and basketball, fishing, cooking, gospel music, and visiting family. He was an avid boxing fan, and himself was a three time Middle weight Golden Glove Champion. He was always present at local sporting events cheering his sons and grandsons on. His greatest joy was time spent with his wife, kids, grandchildren, and all family and friends. Ellis was employed as a machinist at Stover Tank, Burgess Battery, Fairbank Morris, and retired from Modern Plating. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife Kay Pugh of Freeport, IL; one son Anthony Pugh of Bloomington, Il; two daughters Andrian Allen and Lezzette (Terence) Green both of Freeport, IL; four grandchildren Jason Stewart-Jones, Tony Pugh, and Justine Pugh all of Normal, IL, and Isaiah Baker of Freeport, IL; three great-grandchildren Kyson, Elijah, and Nevaeh all of Normal, IL. He also leaves very special nephews Andrae Glaspie, Terrence, Richard, and Tyrone Newton, William Ampofo, and Patrick and Brandon Graham; and his adopted children Ray Flowers and Vernita Allen; as well as many others. He was preceded in death by his parents Elliot Pugh and Maggie Riley; two brothers C.W. Webb and Sylvester Palmer; two sisters Laura Ellis and Clara Wright; one son Leslie Ellis Pugh; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be noon Saturday August 13, 2016 at Evangelistic Church of God in Christ in Freeport. Visitation will be 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
