Eleanor Chance, 81, of Freeport, passed away on, Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Parkview Home in Freeport, IL. Eleanor was born on June 23, 1941 in Dixon, IL the daughter of Albert and Olive (Hawbecker) Iske. Eleanor taught Home Economics at Freeport High School where she met the love of her life William "Bill" Chance. They were married on December 23, 1965 and he preceded her in death on June 14, 2011. She also taught Nutrition Classes and was director of the Upward Bound Program at Highland Community College. She finished her teaching career back at Freeport High School teaching Childcare Classes. Eleanor enjoyed cooking and baking. She also was a skilled seamstress as she loved sewing and quilting. She is survived by her son, Michael (Susan) Chance; two grandchildren, Jordan Elaine Chance and Carter William Chance all of Sterling; one step-sister, Janet Rink of Freeport; one step-sister-in- law, Lois Gordan of Galena; one brother-in-law, Jim Hogge of Raleigh, NC. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister (Marilyn Hogge), step-mother (Ruth Gordan Iske), and step-brother (Dick Gordan). A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Faith United Methodist Church, 1440 South Walnut Ave, Freeport, IL 61032 with Rev. Melissa Meyers, officiating. Burial of Cremated Remains will be 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Fairmount Cemetery in Polo, IL. A Memorial Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2023 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home 504 North Walnut Ave, Freeport, IL 61032.
