Edwin W. "Wayne" Wales, 84, of Freeport, died Friday November 18, 2016 in his home. Mr. Wales was born on June 22, 1932 in Freeport, the son of Edwin L. and Helen (Larrow) Wales. He married Janet Beverley on October 17, 1953 in Freeport. Mrs. Wales passed away on April 26, 2015. Wayne worked at Burgess Battery for 18 years and then at Kelly Springfield Tire for 29 years before retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Wayne was an avid sports fan rooting on all of Chicago's teams. Surviving are three sons, Michael (Elaine) Wales of Freeport, Kenneth Wales of Rockford, and Chuck (Diane) Lofgren of Freeport; daughter, Deb (Ruben) Dowman of Cedarville; brother, Homer (Marge) Wales of Gautier, MS.; two sisters, June Hopkins of Lakewood, CO., and Darlene Sherman of Nokomis, IL.; 10 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving are special friends David and John; and his dog, Chico. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and grandson, Bryan Lofgren. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday November 23, 2016 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Father Timothy Barr will officiate. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the of service.
