Edward L. Evans

Edward L. Evans, 95, of Freeport, died February 18, 2013, at FHN Memorial Hospital due to injuries from a fall at home. He was born on July 26, 1917, in Stockton, Ill., to Herbert and Della (Williams) Evans. He grew up in Stockton and graduated from Stockton High School. He attended college in Dubuque Iowa where he played basketball and football. He served in the CC'™s in Seattle during the war era. He worked for Commonwealth Edison for 40 years. After retirement, he purchased a mini farm and raised cattle. He enjoyed gardening and working around the home and could help repair almost anything that needed fixing. On June 15, 1940, he married Velma Louisa Bastian in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2005. He is survived by one daughter, Sharon (John) Konstant and one son, David H. Evans both of Freeport; daughter-in-law, Mary Evans of Eleroy; four grandchildren, Margie (Mike) Stoltz of Rockford and Sandy (John) Grenoble, Michael (Jennifer) Konstant, and Daniel Konstant all of Freeport. Also surviving are four great grandchildren in addition to several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 65 years, one son, Edward Larry Evan, and two brothers, Robert and William. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday February 21, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Rev. Kathleen Luke will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Mr. Evan'™s memory.
