Edward C. Brooks Jr.

Edward C. Brooks Jr., 86, of Freeport, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 in his home. Ed was born July 17, 1931 in Freeport, the son of Edward C. and Berniece (Myers) Brooks Sr. He married Mary B. Hess on April 19, 1952 in Monroe. Mary died November 21, 2005. Ed was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He always enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting alongside his beloved hunting dogs, as well as golfing. Ed was a bee keeper. He enjoyed baking and sharing his baked goods with others. He worked 40 years for the Illinois Central Railroad. Ed's family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Rita and Simona Vaitiekunaite for the personal care and love they provided to Ed over the last five years; Rita and Simona had become part of Ed's family. The family would also like to thank FHN Hospice for their care and compassion. He is survived by three sons, Thomas E. (Sue) Brooks of Ft. Collins, CO., John E. (Terry) Brooks of Freeport, and Joseph M. (Katie) Brooks of Rockton; six grandchildren, Benjamin Brooks, Lauren (Kevin) Prentiss, Jacob (Elizabeth) Brooks, Jill Brooks, Ruedi Brooks, and Ellie Brooks; and three great -grandchildren, Rivington Prentiss, Alexa Brooks, Emma Brooks. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Edna. As Ed had requested there will be no services. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Polo, Illinois at a future date.
