Edmund Suess, 91, of Freeport, died Monday March 5, 2012 at St. Joseph Provena Center. Edmund was born on March 24, 1920 in Scotland, South Dakota, the son of George & Magdelina (Heihn) Suess. Edmund marred Irene Dorothy Reints on June 30, 1941. She passed June 2, 2011. Ed came to Illinois in 1939. He served for the U.S. Navy in World War II from 1944-1946. He farmed in various locations in northern Illinois before buying his own farm near McConnell, IL. He then moved to Freeport. Edmund worked at Burgess Battery, Fairbanks Morse and Dean'™s Food in Pecatonica. He retired in 1984. For the last 2 years he lived at Oakley Courts in Freeport. He attended and was an active member of Zion Church. For 20 years he provided Wednesday weekly entertainment at the Stephenson Nursing Home called 'coffee with Ed' Survivors include; two sons, Thomas (Barbara) Suess of Freeport and Kenneth Suess of Cedarville; two daughters, Sandra Sweitzer of Lanark and Suzanne Suess of Lanark; brother; Alton Suess of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, two sisters, Elda Juehnke of Columbus, NB, and Ella Bertrand of Scotland, SD; seven grandchildren, Wendy (Tim) Bray of Rockford, Neil (Sonya) Suess of Pecatonica, Brian (Jill) Suess of Cedarville, Terry (Valerie) Sweitzer of Lanark, Connie (John) Hauptman of Lanark, Kevin (Lydia) Sweitzer of Lanark and Tiffany (Brian Benkert) Suess of Freeport; eight great grandchildren, Lacey Bray of St. Paul, MN, Neil Thomas Suess of Pecatonica, Jessica Rodriguez of Freeport, Kayleigh Benkert of Freeport, Brandon Benkert of Freeport, Kole Hauptman of Lanark, Nicole Sweitzer of Lanark and Caleb Sweitzer of Lanark; sister-in-law; Charlene Suess. Also surviving are four great great grandchildren; Isaiah Jones, Neveah, Mia and Jose Rodriguez. Preceded in death by his parents, wife; Irene, son; Gerald, son-in-law; Franklin, 7 brothers, 3 sisters and a great grandson; Timothy Michael Bray. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday March 9, 2012 at the Zion Church with Rev. Gardy Cronk officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at Zion Church, Friday.
