Edith J. Arjes, 92, of Freeport went to be with the Lord on Saturday at Presence Provena Center. She was born January 4, 1922 in Baileyville, Illinois the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Meinert) Linneman. Edith married Raymond S. Arjes on July 9, 1949. He died July 6, 1995. Mrs. Arjes was a member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church and also attended Zion Church. Mrs. Arjes began her work career at Burgess Battery, she later stayed home to raise her children, she then went back Burgess Battery and later was employed at W.T. Rawleigh Company until retirement. Mrs. Arjes enjoyed growing flowers and was a wonderful pie maker. Surviving are her son, Stephen Arjes of Freeport. Her daughter, Connie (Russ) Hoffman of Freeport. Her sister, Delores (Glen) Kuhlemeier of Rock Falls. Two granddaughters; Amanda(Jarrod) Stichter and Brittany (Andrew) Tollberg of Freeport. One great-grandson Levi Tollberg. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence, her sister, Gladys Smith and her niece, Linda Smith. A funeral service for Mrs. Arjes will be Thursday, 10:30 A.M. in Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Rev. Gardy Cronk and Rev. Cliff Gilleland will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. A memorial has been established in her name.
