Earnest William 'E.W.' Johnson of Freeport died Tuesday, April 26 in Rockford Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 20, 1949 in West, Mississippi the son of William C. and Cordelia (Anderson) Johnson. Earnest was a 1967 graduate of Freeport High School. Mr. Johnson married Paula Ellis in 1974. She passed away in 1992. Earnest was employed by Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. Earnest loved being with his family and friends. He was friendly and loved to socialize with anyone. He enjoyed having a good time with people he knew. He leaves to cherish his mother Cordelia Johnson, three sisters; Linda (Taylor) Rice, Janet (James) Fane and Maryann Tomlinson. One brother, Robert all of Freeport. Seven nieces, four nephews, Ten great nieces, Twelve great nephews and one great-great- nephew and his special friend Johnny Westmorland. He was preceded in death by his father, one sister, two brothers and his special brother, Bill 'Bill-Bill' Johnson. Funeral services will be Friday, 1:00 P.M. in Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Sylvester Armstrong, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. Burial will be in City Cemetery, Freeport.
