Dr. Ray William "Doc" Polsean, 89, of Freeport, went to meet his Lord, and his beloved wife, Naomi, on Sunday, June 26, 2016. He was born June 15, 1927 in Dubuque, IA to Tilden and Ella Polsean. He graduated from Dubuque High School in 1945, and then served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Commencement Bay during WWII. Following an honorable discharge, he married Naomi Jean Cunningham on December 30, 1948 in Dubuque. In 1950, Doc graduated from Palmer School of Chiropractic. While employed as a driver for Arrow Paper Company, he became familiar with Freeport, IL and decided to make it their home. As a chiropractor, Doc pioneered the profession in Freeport as he established and built a successful practice. He shared his passion for helping people maintain good health and well-being through chiropractic practices until his retirement. In addition to his professional life, he felt led to serve both his church and community. He was a founding member of Park Hills Evangelical Free Church, where he enjoyed serving on the Missions Board and in other various positions. He served as a member of the Freeport Police and Fire Commission and also, as 2nd Ward Alderman. Doc owned and operated both Ray's and Timber Ridge Mobile Home parks. In retirement, he continued developing Timber Ridge, enjoyed fishing at Lake Carroll, and flying single engine planes. Doc traveled the world with Naomi by his side. They visited China, Germany, Spain, Israel and other places. They felt especially blessed to have traveled and studied in the Holy Land, and shared their experiences with others. Doc had a long and full life. He, along with his wife, accomplished many things and at the center of it all was their devotion to faith and family. He and Naomi were blessed with seven children, eighteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Ray is survived by his seven children: Jean (Harold) Ross of Bark River, MI; Janice (Steven Joseph) Lipko of Fort Worth, TX; Joan (Tim) Peery of Austin, TX; Jill Mary (Sheldon) Lobdell of Freeport, IL; John (Beth)Polsean of Syracuse, IN; Jeffrey (Jill) Polsean of Rockford, IL; James (Jessica) Polsean of Freeport, IL. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Ruth (Joseph) Hickson of Dubuque, IA; his brother-in-law, David (Linda) Cunningham of Winston, OR, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Naomi Jean (Cunningham) Polsean in 2009; and also, his parents; his sister, Ruth Block; and his brothers Tilden and Alfred. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 16 at Park Hills Evangelical Free Church, Freeport, IL, with Reverend Tom McClellan officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service A luncheon will follow the service. Cremation rites have been afforded, and in a private ceremony, the family will lay their parents to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
