Doyle Raymer

Doyle Raymer, 83, of Freeport, was called home to heaven Tuesday September 9, 2014 at Stephenson Nursing Center. He was born October 17, 1930 in Paragould, Arkansas, the son of Earl and Lily (Barr) Raymer. On January 7, 1978 he married Susan Morton in Freeport. During the Korean conflict, Mr. Raymer served with the United States Navy. Doyle was employed by Thermos Company as director of Research and Development. He retired in 1990. Doyle was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Eagles Club 679. He loved to play golf with his wife and cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and he bowled in several bowling leagues. In addition to his wife, Mr. Raymer is survived by two sons; David Raymer of Bradenton, Fla., and Brad (Jill) Nelson of Roscoe, Ill. Two daughters; Nancy (Jim) Raymer of Gibsonville, N.C. and Lori (Leon) Cheeney of Kent, Illinois. Four grandchildren; Amanda, Ben and Joe Cheeney and Lee Ann (Samuel) Andrews. Two great-grandchildren Logan and Gabriel. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service for Mr. Raymer will be held Saturday,11:00 A.M. September, 13 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at Burke-Tubbs. Family burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
