Dorothy M. Schmelzer

Dorothy M. Schmelzer, 85, of Freeport, died Monday, January 14, 2013 in her home. Dorothy was born on June 20, 1927 in Adeline, the daughter of Hans and Mary (Krull) Veer. Dorothy was a factory worker and a homemaker. Dorothy married Vern Huenefeld, Charles Harrington, and Oral Schmelzer; all three husbands preceded her in death. She was a member of the Eagles Club, Moose Lodge, and the V.F.W. She enjoyed sitting in the sun, crocheting, reading newspapers, doing circle words, and watching T.V. especially Westerns and Cops. Surviving are her son, Robert Lee (Nancy) Harrington Sr. of Freeport; brother, Olie Veer of Lena, four grandchildren, Nanci (Douglas) Hoppe, Tammy (Richard) Herbig, Robert Harrington Jr., and Tara Harrington. Also surviving are 11 great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, five brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday January 18, 2013 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. Dennis Jarrard will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
