Dorothy M. Hoot-Novak, 93, of Freeport, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Dorothy was born March 28, 1920, in Clarno, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ralph and Mary (Cantrill) Dietmeier. Dorothy married Elwyn Hoot of Orangeville in the year 1940. Together they raised their son and daughter and spent their entire marriage living and working in Freeport and being very active in the community. Elwyn passed away in 1972. Dorothy remarried Frank Novak of Rockford in 1979. Together they enjoyed their retirement years travelling the country, visiting their grandchildren and being avid golfers. Frank passed away in 1988. During Dorothy's career of 45 years, she worked for W.T. Rawleigh Company and for Northern Illinois Gas Company. Dorothy was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. She enjoyed exercise, walking, reading, traveling the country. She remained active and social most of her life until recent illness. Her passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she was always very involved with. She never missed any of their high school and college graduations, despite the fact they were spread out around the country. Surviving are one son, Gerald 'Jerry' and wife Jean Hoot of Shelton, CT.; brother, Wayne Dietmeier; son-in-law, George Hiveley; five grandchildren, Daryl and wife Gosia Hoot of Saratoga, CA., Leslie Hoot of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., Jim and wife Amber Hiveley of Oregon, WI., Jeff and wife Anne Hiveley of Freeport and Jon Hiveley of Chicago. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren, Devin Hoot, Julian Hoot, Kelsey Hiveley, Caitlyn Hiveley, Jackson Hiveley, Bennet Hiveley and Ava Hiveley. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one daughter, Cathy Hiveley; two brothers and three sisters. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family gathering will be held. Memorials can be made to the Freeport Park Foundation in Dorothy'™s memory as she spent many wonderful days with her family and on her walks in Krape Park.
