Dorothy L. Lawson, 99, of Freeport, died Monday August 13, 2012, at Manor Court in Freeport. Dorothy was born on January 7, 1913, in Freeport, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Meyer) Knodle. She attended Center and Lincoln Grade Schools. Dorothy married Charles Edward Lawson on May 28, 1938. They farmed several years in the Orangeville area. Mr. Lawson passed away on November 18, 1959. Mrs. Lawson kept a diary for many years which included not only her family records but also notes about the many friends she made over her lifetime. She also competed in the Senior Olympics in this area winning several awards. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Margaret Stout and Vera C. Fry, brothers; Alton Mohon and Wally Mohon and special friend, Dennis R. Smith Sr. Survivors include son; Roy Atkinson, grandson; Roy Atkinson Jr., granddaughter; Keri Davis, nephew; Clifford Stout and niece Sally A. Penticoff both of Freeport. Memorial services for Mrs. Lawson will be Thursday 2:00 P.M. at the Chapel of Peace in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. There will be a visitation from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service.
