Dorothy L. Fair

Dorothy (Williams) Fair, 88, of Freeport, IL, departed this earthly life peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 20, 2024. She was born on February 4, 1936, in West, Mississippi to the union of American and Amanda Shipp. There were four children born to the union of John Conaz Campbell and Dorothy (Shipp) Williams; Laurie, Colette, Deshonne, and Martin Williams. On October 3, 1998, Dorothy married William Fair in Freeport, IL. Dorothy was an active member of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ in Freeport, IL, until her health decline and was not able to attend or participate. She was also on the Mother Board at Mt. Calvary COGIC.

Dorothy attended Kings Consolidated Elementary School and later went on to Durant Attendance Center for her high school education. She worked for Honeywell, Burgess Battery, and later retired from the Freeport Housing Authority. Dorothy loved gardening, social media, reading, and puzzles. She had a green thumb and could grow anything. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and had a way of making everyone feel like family.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Thomas of Freeport, IL; A special granddaughter/daughter Amanda (Jamarah) Guess of Freeport, IL; two sisters, Charlene Thomas of Freeport, IL, and Corrine Bruce of Sugarland, TX; one brother, Henry (Mary) Shipp; Step-mother Connie Bell Shipp; and Tory Walker, daughter in law. Dorothy was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, American and Amanda Shipp; her husband, William Fair; her sister, Sarah Parran; her son, Martin Williams; her daughters, Colette (Williams) McClain and Deshonne (Williams) Russell; her great-grandson, Troy Bland III; and her great-granddaughter, Malayasia Kolette Wade.
