Dorothy Berg Hood, passed away at home after a long struggle with congestive heart failure and post polio syndrome. Born in Freeport on October 20, 1924. She graduated from Freeport High School and Illinois College. While teaching in Elizabeth she met her husband Robert, married for 63 years, she juggled the demands of raising a family, caring for her father and continuing to teach part time as a substitute. Later in life she devoted much of her time doing volunteer work at Hospitals in Rockford and for many charities. Her name means 'Gift of God' and she truly was for all who knew her. With a radiant smile she was always ready to help others in need. Dorothy'™s greatest joys were her family, her deep devotion to her Christian faith, visiting friends, babies, and the many pets she raised over her life. She was preceded in death by both parents, two sisters, a son David, and daughter Jayne. She is survived by her husband Robert, and son Douglas both of Freeport; daughter Holly Veigel, son in law James and a granddaughter Amber all of Rockford. A private memorial service will be held for family members at a future date. We miss you Mom, but hope you new home in heaven is everything you dreamed. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the American Heart Association. Special thanks to Carolyn and Adriana for their integrity and emotional support in caring for our Mother over her last few months. Visit www.burketubbs.com
