Donna M. Kohn

Donna M. Kohn, Mother, Sister Grandma, and Great Gring, 87, of Freeport, died Wednesday January 7, 2015 in her home. Donna was born on December 10, 1927, in Freeport the daughter of Alvin and Harriet (LeBaron) Roemer. Donna married Dwight "Poke" Kohn on July 13, 1946 in Freeport. Mr. Kohn passed away on April 14, 2000. She worked at Crum & Forster Insurance Company for 43 years. Donna was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was a Volunteer at FACC, FHN Memorial Hospital and First Lutheran Church. Some of Donna's hobbies included bowling, reading, knitting, and she enjoyed going for walks through Krape Park. Surviving are two daughters, Kandis (Harold) Boomer of Rockford and Penny (Hal) Wirtjes of Loves Park; one brother, Larry (Regina) Roemer of Cedarville; two sisters, Darlene Holdridge and Patricia Cashman both of Freeport. Special thanks to Darlene for all of the special care she gave to her sister. Four grandchildren, Heather (Paul) Larson, Hal (Michelle) Wirtjes II, David (Katrina) Boomer, and Nathan (Courtney) Wirtjes; 10 great-grandchildren, Connor Larson, Morgan Larson, Willow Boomer, Ephraim Boomer, Axell Boomer, Noah Wirtjes, Sam Wirtjes, Delaney Wirtjes, Landon Wirtjes, and Harper Wirtjes. Also surviving are two sister-in-laws, Betty Bawinkel and JoAnn Kohn; and brother-in-law, Keith (Betty) Kohn. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Robert Roemer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday January 12, 2015 at First Lutheran Church in Freeport, with Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 1:00-4:00 P.M. Sunday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for GiGi's Playhouse in Rockford, 8801 North Second Street, Suite #2, Machesney Park, IL. 61115.
