Don Frisbie passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 25th at Serenity Hospice in Oregon, IL. surrounded by his family. Don courageously fought cancer for two years, enduring treatment after treatment, before finally succumbing to this terrible disease.
If you knew Don, you know he is the epiphany of hard-work, dedication and honesty. He didn’t need flashy things and lived his life humbly and honestly. A true example of someone who always did the right thing no matter how hard it was to do.
The most important things to Don were his family and each and every one of the dog’s who came through the Frisbie house as either a short-term foster or long-term “foster fail”. If his family and dogs were taken care of and happy, then Don was happy too. There’s a long list of dogs to name but we hope you’re up there with all of them, Dad. Tell Bammer, Ruby, Sunshine, Ozzy girl, Maverick and Barney we miss and love them.
Don worked nearly all his life which is a testament to who he was as a person. He spent his early childhood years on the farm showing cattle and eventually went on to complete the IBEW electrical apprenticeship. From there, he spent nearly 30 years working and retiring as an electrician for Titan Tire Company along with serving as a Union representative fighting for equal rights for his Union brothers and sisters.
However, Don’s passion wasn’t in electricity. Don’s true passion and where he was happiest the most was when he was sitting in the cab of a tractor or combine during harvest season. The man loved every aspect of farming, it was in his blood, and if you want to do anything to honor Don Frisbie, thank a farmer. He spent years and years working for both the Coffman Family farms in German Valley, IL along with the Miller Family farms in Shannon, IL. The Frisbie family can’t thank both families enough for allowing Don to be part of your farming families all those years. We hope you all know how much joy and happiness he got from being part of the farm.
We’ll remember our Dad every time the Cubs play and how he was able to see a World Series victory in 2016. Or when the green flag waves again to get the NASCAR season off and running (“Boogity. Boogity. Boogity. Let’s Go Racing!”) Who knows, maybe even the Chicago Bears will figure out how to get a winning season for you soon, Don, but we won’t hold our breath : )
Don is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jeanie Frisbie; two sons, Lucas Frisbie (Tammy Schaefer) and Ryan (Carey) Frisbie. beloved grandchildren, Owen and Payton; niece, Jessa Ovitt (Nathan Ovitt. Kiah, Laney and Jonas Ovitt);, mother-in-law, Nell Burks; and
brothers-in-law, Roy Burks, Tony Burks and John Burks.
Preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jan Frisbie and his brother – Dan Frisbie. Along with his Father-In-Law – Gene Burks.
You’ll be dearly missed by family and friends, Don, but your presence will always be with us. We love you and we’ll see you again someday.
There will be no funeral and the family will have a “celebration of life” in the summer of 2024.
