Donald G. Blasing

Donald G. Blasing, 82, of Freeport, died in his home on Wednesday June 11, 2014. Donald was born on February 18, 1932 in Stephenson County, the son of Walter and Thyre (Jensen) Blasing. Donald married Alice Barthel on November 14, 1953 in Milledgeville, IL. Alice died on January 16, 2009. Donald served with the Freeport Fire Department for 21 years. He also worked as a carpenter, farmer and was employed at Eickman's Meat Locker. He enjoyed spending his free time gardening, woodworking, and spending time with his family. Survivors include two sons, Donald "Lary" (Lynette) Blasing of Brimfield and Steven (Amy) Blasing of Pearl City; two daughters, Linda (James) Wean of La Vergne, Tennessee; and Jeanne (James) Crocker of Rockford. His brother, Duane Blasing of Freeport. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, and two step-grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Robert and one sister, Marjorie. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Cedarville Emmanuel Church. Rev. Donald L. Blasing will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. A memorial has been established in Donald's memory.
