Donald Eugene Mullarkey, 88, of Freeport died Monday June 26, 2017 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Donald was born May 30, 1929 in Freeport, Illinois; the son of William Henry and Oleva (Geringer) Mullarkey. Mr. Mullarkey married Dorothy Watkins in 1949. Donald then married Phyllis (Baker) Doll on November 28, 1969 in Freeport, Illinois. Phyllis died January 5, 2017. He was a 1947 graduate of Freeport High School. For over 20 years he worked for the State of Illinois Department of Employment Services as manager of the Sterling, IL offices and retiring in May of 1989. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, former member in the Sterling Lions Club, and he also was a former member of the Freeport Elk's Lodge #617. Surviving are his two sons, James (Deena) Mullarkey of rural Freeport and Jay Mullarkey of Freeport; step-son Dr. Steven (Francie) Doll of Tomah, WI; two daughters Kathy Mullarkey of Baraboo, WI and Christine (Michael) Giardini of Freeport; two step-daughters Janet (Wayne) Wichman of Freeport and Karen (Joe) Dimodica of Freeport; and 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Lawrence, sister Irene and grandson Jared Mullarkey. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday June 30, 2017 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home with a visitation from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Rev. John Wesley Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
