Delois J. Shorter affectionately known as “Lois” went to her eternal home of rest at the age of 70
on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Lois was born on December 18, 1952, in Courtland, AL. She
is the daughter of Jeff Ella Reedus and Kermit Stovall. Lois received her formal education from
Courtland High School in the graduating class of 1972. While in high school she was a member
of the cheerleading team. After high school, she moved to Freeport where she worked at Micro
Switch for over 30 years. She was united in holy matrimony to Charles “CD” Shorter in 1981, in
Freeport, IL.
Lois was a faithful servant of the Lord. She accepted Christ at an early age as a member of
First Missionary Baptist Church in Courtland, AL, where she was a part of the choir. She was
also a member of St. Martin Missionary Baptist Church in Freeport IL, where she served as the
church nurse. She later became a devoted member of Philippians Baptist Church, where she
served as church nurse.
Her devotion to God and her family gave her the most contentment, satisfaction, and fulfillment.
She enjoyed spending time with her 4 grandchildren, and attending cheerleading competitions.
Her love for her family was immeasurable.
Lois is predeceased by her parents, Jeff Ella Reedus and Kermit Stoveall, Godfather Wilbur
Crayton, and sister Earnestine Hill. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Charles
“CD” Shorter, a son Gary (Stacy) Shorter, four grandchildren; Brooklynn, Brielle, Brayla, and
Bronx Shorter, two brothers; Marlon Muslin, Edward (Carolyn) Reedus, and six sisters; Claudia
(Leo) Bolding, Amberlene (Minister Don) Jones, Louise (John) Worthy, Supporia Goode, Linda
(Wallace) Stanley, and Ruby Steele-Morris; and a host of other caring and loving nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Philippians Baptist
Church (615 S Chicago Ave, Freeport, IL 61032). Reverend Nathan Allison will officiate.
Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill
Memorial Gardens (2514 IL-26, Freeport, IL 61032). The Repast will be held at the Stephenson
County Farm Bureau (210 W Spring St, Freeport, IL 61032) immediately following services.
