With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dean Robert Augsburger, a devoted husband and loving father. Dean passed away at home with family by his side on Saturday, December 28 at age 67. He was born in Freeport, IL to Shirley and Robert Augsburger, attended Orangeville High School and Highland Community College, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1975-1979. Dean and Jessie married in 1981 and had two sons, Jason and Daniel.
Dean was known for his commitment to his family and would do anything to help his family members. He was always present and engaged whether acting as head coach for his sons’ baseball teams, helping with car repairs, or cheering during their marathon races and music performances. Dean and Jessie enjoyed visiting their sons and family on long drives accompanied by their beloved family dog, Rowdy.
Dean was also known for his strong work ethic, most recently working at Titan Tire as maintenance supervisor and retiring from there in 2022. He had a talent for repairing anything that needed fixing around the house, including woodworking, plumbing, electrical, and rebuilding the deck on the family home.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie Augsburger (nee Rumbaoa); children, Jason Dean Augsburger and his wife, Ashley Sarver (Rockford, IL), Daniel C. Augsburger and his wife, Alison Goldberg (Brooklyn, NY); and brother Fred Augsburger. He is predeceased by his parents, Shirley and Robert Augsburger; and sister, Rebecca Appelman.
A visitation will be held Friday, January 3, 2025 at 9:00am-10:30am with funeral mass to follow, both to be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a memorial fund to support selected charities.
