David Richter

David “Dave” William Richter, 80, of Freeport, IL passed away Sunday February 25, 2024 at Alden Debes Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Rockford, IL. He was born May 3, 1943 in Freeport, the son of LaVerne William and Florence (Dreier) Richter. On October 5, 1968 he married Dianne Johnson in Shannon, IL. Dave owned and operated Helsley Supply Company from 1985 until his retirement in 2000. He graduated from the Rockford School of Business. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport for his entire life, where he served as a trustee, usher, and money counter. His other memberships included the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #679 as Club Treasurer and he served on the board at Heritage Woods of Freeport. Dave was an avid Chicago Bear and Cub fan. He enjoyed spending time at the family lake house on Lake Wisconsin.

Dave is survived by his wife Dianne of Freeport, IL; two daughters Dawn Granath of Rockford, IL and Debbi (Mike) Pettersen of North Liberty, IA; brother Dennis (Jackie) Richter of Freeport, IL; five grandchildren, Madasyn Pettersen, Isabella Pettersen, Andrew Granath, Emma Granath, and Benjamin Granath; cousin Mary Lou (Bob) Huffington; nephew Shane (Michelle) Richter; and niece Stacey Winter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Douglas, and son-in-law Carl.

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday March 2, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport with Rev. Zachary Klatt and Rev. Dr. Willis Schwichtenberg officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. A private burial of cremated remains will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Dave’s memory.
