David L. Vanmatre

David L. VanMatre, 74, of Freeport, passed away, Tuesday May 23, 2023 at FHN Memorial Hospital. David was born January 10, 1949, in Freeport, the son of Homer and D. Kathryn (Stevens) VanMatre Jr. David married Linda Stewart November 6, 1983, in Rockton, Illinois. David proudly served his country in the US Army in Germany, during the Vietnam Era. He worked for Eagle Foods, co owned T& D Enterprises, owned and operated OK Card Company and Rich’s Roadhouse. He was a member of Church of Christ. David enjoyed following all of his grandchildren’s sporting events, following the Chicago Cubs and Bears, camping, his pets, Jake, Charlie, and Rizzo; and visiting with all his friends.

Surviving is his wife, Linda of Freeport; daughter, DeDe (Todd) Heid of Appleton, Wisconsin; step-son, Jamie (Lynn) Hille of Mineral Point, Wisconsin; step-daughters, Cherie (Terry) Boomgarden and Shawna (John P.) Kreeger both of Freeport; and eleven grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Don, Dennis, and Darryl.

Funeral services will be Saturday May 27, 2023 at Freeport Church of Christ. Jeff White will officiate. Visitation 9:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in David’s memory.
