David Charles VanDrew went home to be with the Lord on October 27, 2024 at his home in Freeport IL, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born in Altoona PA on July 4, 1938 to Elva June (Sunderland) VanDrew and John VanDrew. He married Marilyn (Holland) VanDrew on June 6, 1961 in Bethesda, Md.
He is survived by his wife and sisters Donna Skelley of Altoona, Carol Batts of Tyrone PA. and Phyllis Nale of Altoona PA. Also surviving are his children Curtis (Dena) VanDrew, Craig (Lisa) VanDrew and Cristin (Christian) Kehler, and Grandchildren Amanda (Jeff) Allis, Haley VanDrew, Lucas (Ciara) Kehler, Jesse Kehler, Courtney VanDrew and Dani and Trent (Kirstin) Jones. and several great grand children.
He was proud of his years of service in the US Army, serving in (Korea-Germany) various locations around the world, and also that he was one of the first employees hired at the new Chrysler plant when it opened in Belvidere. He retired after many years from Honeywell (Micro Switch) in Freeport.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Freeport for many years, serving faithfully on many of the Boards and Committees. He especially enjoyed serving as an usher and meeting everyone. He also enjoyed fishing, especially with the grandkids, and spending time playing with them.
He had a very funny sense of humor, usually keeping any group he was with in stitches.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday November 2, 2024 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Visitation 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
