Darrell Otto Janssen

Darrell O. Janssen 70 of Shannon Illinois passed away suddenly, Tuesday March 2, 2021 at FHN. Darrell was born September 19, 1950 in Freeport, the son of Herman and Iva (Kniss) Janssen. Darrell married Cindy (Sheridan) January 16, 1970 in Shannon. Darrell was born and raised on the family farm, he was a graduate of Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa Oklahoma and graduated with A & P license. From graduating, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas where Darrell worked for Boeing. In 1976 he accepted a job as the A&P mechanic at Albertus Airport. Darrell ran the maintenance shop until 1984, when he became manager of Albertus Airport. He served as manager for a total of 32 years not only was he an A&P mechanic, Manager, he also was a flight instructor. He has been a member of several aviation organizations. Darrell was a man of integrity, honesty, hardworking, passionate, and would do anything for anyone. Darrell is survived by his wife, Cindy (Sheridan) Janssen, daughter Angie Janssen of Freeport, James (Sue)Janssen of Orangeville. Brother Duane (Mary Ann) Janssen, sister Laurie (Darrell) Stitzel. 3 Grandchildren Elijah, Hannah, Faith Janssen and one great grandchild Teagan Janssen. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Iva (Kniss) Janssen. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, March 8, 2021 at Park Hill Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Mark Balmer will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Sunday March 7, 2021 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport.
