Darlene R. Holdridge

Darlene R. Holdridge went to be with the LORD on August 19th. She was born in Freeport, to Alvin and Harriett Roemer. She had one brother Robert, who predeceased her and one brother Larry (Regina) who has been so kind and supportive to her her entire life. Darlene had two sisters, Donna Kohn and Pat Cashman, who predeceased her. She also had two daughters, the oldest Vicki Kerlin who predeceased her and Kimberly (Steven) Heitz. Darlene also has two step-sons Pete (Sherry) Holdridge and Mark Holdridge. Darlene has four grandchildren, Jason Kerlin, Heidi Heitz, Anna (Gregory) Roberts, and Richard Heitz. Darlene always loved the ocean and the beautiful warm weather in Florida, so when she retired, she moved there at 58 years old. She immediately joined the Senior Center, and took part everyday in their exercise classes. She met many nice friends there. She loved to walk and could walk up to 3 miles some days. She also loved to dance. She could dance any dance steps from the 1940's to square dancing and anything in between. Darlene also enjoyed garage sailing many Saturday mornings. Darlene lived in Florida for 20 years and then in 2008, she moved back to Freeport. She joined Faith United Methodist Church right away and made many kind and loving friends. She always volunteered to help there whenever she saw a need. Darlene helped care for a childhood friend and her own two sisters, when they were in Hospice Care. Darlene also volunteered at FACC with her sister Donna many times. Darlene also loved cats and had a beautiful cat until a few years ago named Baby Girl. Whenever Darlene had any free time, she was holding, grooming, or playing with her cat. She had towels, mugs, and stationery's with cats . She loved to feed stray cats when she could. Cats made here happy. There will be a memorial service for her on Friday August 26 at 3:00 P.M. at Faith United Methodist Church. Darlene will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
