Craig W. Greenfield

October 18, 1953 — November 12, 2024

Craig William Greenfield, 71, of German Valley Illinois was called home on November 12, 2024. He was born on October 18,1953 to Barbara and Lester Greenfield of Foreston, Illinois. He married Kay Abbas on January 2, 1982, in German Valley Christian Reformed Church.

Craig Greenfield held a variety of different jobs throughout his lifetime that brought him into contact with many different people. He started working from a young age on his family’s farm and had a love of farming and animals for the rest of his life. After he graduated with a degree in Animal Science from Southern Illinois University, he continued to milk cows on his family’s farm and worked for Prairie State Select Sires running an artificial insemination route. After he married, he and Kay moved into a small farm outside of German Valley, Illinois, and he was able to start his own dairy farm. Following his career as a dairy farmer, he worked as a cheese maker in Judah, Wisconsin and then as a computer technician for Aero Computing. He continued to work as a computer technician in his own company up until his death. In all his jobs, he loved to sit and chat with his coworkers and customers and considered them more than customers, but friends.

Craig was an active member of Grace Valley Christian Reformed Church, where he attended services and served on the council. He also participated in other volunteer activities.

Craig loved to watch almost any sports game that was on but had a special fondness for Chicago Cubs baseball. You could often find him wearing his Cubs hat as he worked in his garden with his son surrounded by their hoard of cats.

Craig will be remembered for his extreme generosity, his sense of humor, his ability to make those around him laugh, and his inability to call almost anyone by their actual name. His family and friends felt special and close when they received a new nickname from him.

Surviving is his wife, Kay Abbas; daughter, Anita Greenfield (Minsu Kim); son Thomas Greenfield; and siblings Collin (Rita) Greenfield, Cheryl Boyer, Corliss (Craig) Smart, Carol Greenfield, and Curt (Jamie) Greenfield and many nieces and nephews.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Lester Greenfield.
