Craig Arthur Ross, 72, of Freeport departed his earthly life on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. He was born in Freeport on February 17, 1950, to Dorothy M. and Arthur R. Ross Sr. Craig's education began at John W. Henney School in Freeport's 3rd ward, and he continued on to graduate from Freeport Senior High School in 1968. Craig proudly served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971 and is considered a Vietnam Era Veteran. During his time of service, he was awarded The Good Conduct Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Expert Badge M-14 and The Expert Badge Hand Grenade. After his honorable discharge he returned to Freeport and worked at Groeling Salvage Inc., Anchor Harvey Components LLC and with his dad at the family business. After then he relocated to Texas for several years, after which he returned to "The Port" in 2003. Craig enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. He also had a very special love for cooking, playing dominos and shooting pool and he even began venturing into golf with the guidance of his brother-in-law Howard Shirley. Craig leaves to cherish his life and memories with his daughter Jennifer Ross of Texas, brothers Arthur R. Ross Jr. and Michael Ross, sisters Arlene (Steven) Harrell, Michelle (Howard) Shirley, Paulette (Terry) Bowdry, Kathryn Lewis all of Freeport IL, Virginia Ross of Rockford, IL. Cherylynn (Marvin) Reid of Henderson, NV. and Hazel Farrar of Houston, TX. Mark. He also leaves seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, along with a host of dear nieces, nephews, family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy M. Ross and father and stepmother Arthur R. and Lucille P. Ross Sr., daughter Kendra Monroe, brothers Gary Ross and Douglas Ross and nephew Adam R. Ross. Thank you to the Freeport Fire Department Firemen and Paramedics, FHN Memorial Hospital Emergency Room and Staff, REACT Helicopter Crew and UW-Swedish American Hospital Critical Care Unit, Schwarz Park Boulevard Chapel and Burke-Tubbs for your devotion to caring for our beloved family member. We are forever grateful for your service. Per Jennifer Ross Craig's daughter, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held 12:00 pm Saturday September 17,2022 at Schwarz Park Boulevard Chapel 608 S. Park Blvd. Freeport, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the chapel. Interment will be in Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens at a later date. A memorial has been established in Craig's name.
