Claudia Smith

Claudia Irene Smith passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024. She was born on January 28, 1944 in Freeport, IL. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and a lifelong teacher who loved to travel the world. Claudia was also very social, loved her friends, and taking influential parts in the Freeport community, which included volunteer work for the literacy council, garden club, Grace Episcopal Church, and Amity Attic. In her private life, she was a great cook who loved baking.

She was preceded in death by her father Phillip Gagnon, mother Wilma and step-father James Bender, mother and father-in-law Lorraine and Frederick Smith, sister Elaine Myers, sister and brother-in-law Oma and J. Fred Smith, brothers-in-law Daniel Fyock and Jack Holden, and nephew Michael Myers.

She is survived by her husband Nicholas Smith of 60 years; daughters - Sarah (Darryl) Burns, Anastasia (Chris) Aldridge, Alexandra (Nick) Sprager, sons - Nick (Amy) Smith, Chris (Bright) Smith, grandchildren - Cameron, Logan, Gryphon, Lila, Mia and Eden, sister - Teresa Fyock, brother-in-law Jim Myers, sister-in-law Marsha Holden, brother Larry Gagnon and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation at 9am and a funeral service at 10:30am on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Grace Episcopal Church in Freeport, IL. A memorial has been established in her name.
