Clarence Becke

Clarence J. Becke, 90, of Freeport, died Monday, November 19, 2012 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born on March 7, 1922, the son of John and Emma (Gartner) Becke in Lena, IL. Clarence attended Lena Schools. He entered the Army in1942 as a private and left as a sergeant in 1945. He served General George Patten'™s 3rd battalion during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, France and Germany. He was discharged in 1945 and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Clarence married Marian (Niesman) on October 25th, 1947. In Freeport at 2nd Presbyterian Church. Clarence worked for Micro Switch (Honeywell) as a plumber for 30 years. Clarence was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and a fan of the Cubs and Bears. Clarence is survived by one son, David (Joan) Becke of Lake Summerset Grandchildren, Laura and Greg Becke of Freeport and one great grandson, Christian of Freeport. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marian, one son, Randall; three brothers, Vernon, Harold and Leonard, two sisters, Helen and Irene (at birth). Funeral service will be Saturday 1 p.m. at Burke-Tubbs. Visitation will be Friday 4-6 p.m. at Burke-Tubbs. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
