Christie "Chris" Kortes

Christie 'Chris' Kortes, 81, of Freeport, died Thursday, December 2,2010 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. Chris was born February 4, 1929 in Samos, Greece. The son of Nicholas and Lucy (Taosanis) Kortes. Chris married Doris O. (Lee) Kortes on April 30, 1949, in Washington North Carolina . She died January 24, 2007. Chris served in the United States Marine'™s from 1946-1949. He was a member of the Saint Constantine Greek Orthodox Church in Rockford, and also the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, in Freeport. He worked 35 years for Micro Switch before retiring in 1985. Survivors include: two sons; Timothy Kortes of Rockford and Nathan Kortes of Freeport, two sisters; Violet Konstant of Winnebago Il., and Annie (Charles) Wiker of Sterling Il. One granddaughter, Olivia C. Kortes of Freeport Il. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and one son Nick. Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday December 7, 2010 at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Freeport. Visitation will be held Monday 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, with a Trisagon prayer service being held at 6:00 P.M. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens .
