Cheryl J. Peck

Cheryl J. Peck, 92, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and formerly of Freeport, Illinois, passed away Sunday January 3, 2021 at White Oak Manor in Rock Hills, S.C. Cheryl was born June 29, 1928 to Benjamin C. and Alvina (Huenefeld) Crosby. She married Robert W. Peck on June 22, 1947. Cheryl was a member of St. John U.C.C., V.F.W. Auxiliary, Senior Center, and she was a past member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Club. She worked at Burgess Battery, Structo and Sunstrand in Freeport prior to her retirement. She enjoyed swimming at the Women's YMCA, playing cards, bingo, and visiting with all her friends, word puzzles, fishing, traveling, and camping. She loved playing with her cats and dogs as well as spending time with all her family. She enjoyed being called, "Lala" by her granddaughter, Kaytlen. She is survived by her daughters, Sharon "Sheri" Veer and Linda "Lynn" Schmitz of Freeport; sons, Robert W. (Wendy Johnsen) Peck Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Terry (Kim Erb) Peck of Ft. Lawn, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; three step great- grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, James "Jim" Groshans and Henry "Hank"Groshans; six sisters, Elvina "Toss" Hutchinson, Clara (Ralph) Johnston, Marie (Paul) McLain, Marion (Elwood) Harvey, Margaret (Earl) Kubatzke, and Doris (Claude) Tricker; and two son-in-laws, Hiram "Butch" Schmitz and Franklin "Frank" Veer Sr. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday January 9, 2021 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. Gary Saxby will officiate. Visitation noon until the time of service at Burke Tubbs. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
