Charlotte Erna Buss

Charlotte E. Buss, 95, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, May 9, 2024 at Independence Village, Rockford, IL.

Charlotte was born on August 21, 1928, the daughter of Charles & Erna (Schmidt) Vehmeier. She graduated from Lena High School in 1946. Married Glen Buss on June 27, 1948 in Lena. Worked many secretarial jobs including Hartman TV & Appliance for about 12 years and the longest at Micro Switch from 1968 - 1991, retiring from over 22 years of service. Charlotte and Glen also worked together at the Freeport Advertiser for numerous years. Charlotte is a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Freeport beginning in 1960 when the church was established.

Charlotte is survived by her son, Duane (Donna Burdick) Buss of Castle Rock, CO and daughter, Charlene (Terry) Stahl of Rockford, IL. Five grandchildren, Joshua Stahl (Rosie Pineda), of Rockford, IL, Michelle (Stephan) Holm of Elgin, IL, Zachary (Danielle) Buss of Pendleton, IN, Derrick (RaeAnne) Buss of Jacksonville, FL, and Abby Huber of Aubrey, Texas, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glen, 3 brothers, Paul, Robert and Melvin Vehmeier and 1 sister, Adelheid Maier.

The family would like to thank the Mercy Health Hospice program for their kindness and care these past few months. We would also like to thank the staff at Independence Village where Charlotte resided.

The funeral will be held 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 at Prince of Peace Church in Freeport with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. till the time of the service. Burial will take place at Lena Burial Park in Lena, IL.
