Charles 'C.P.' Raybon, 92, of Freeport, departed his life on July 2, 2011 at F H N Memorial Hospital. Mr. Raybon was born on July 10, 1918 in Batesville, Mississippi, the son of Charles and Lula Bell (Middleton) Raybon Sr. Charles moved to Freeport in 1940 and never left. On November 29, 1948 he married Thelma Brown in Batesville, Mississippi. C.P worked at Gunite Foundry and on the railroads for many years. He was also employed at Structo for 32 years as a machine operator. He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church where he also ushered. Charles hobbies included; fishing and hunting and watching sports on T.V. His favorite times were spent with his family. Survivors include; wife; Thelma Raybon, sister; Fannie Mack of Rockford, daughter; Alice Johnson of Freeport, son; Melvin (Mack) Smith of St. Paul, Minnesota, sister-in-law; Florine Porter of Michigan, six grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Also surviving is a host of nieces and nephews including special niece Evelyn Richardson of Minnesota. Preceded in death by; parents, a niece Eula Thomas and two nephews. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at St. Paul Baptist Church in Freeport. Rev. Ovester Armstrong, Jr. will officiate.
