Charles Hugh Kleckner, 78, passed in peace at home on September 1, 2022 after receiving hospice care. Chuck was born on June 26, 1944 in Freeport, IL. He was the son of George and Lucile (Beaumont) Kleckner. Chuck was preceded in death by his brother Mark and his best friend, John Jackson. Chuck is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cindy (Kiser), their children Tim and Jane (Raymond) Sharp, a granddaughter Olivia, and his snacking buddy, their dog Sara. Chuck was a lifelong resident of Freeport. After enjoying antique refinishing as a hobby, Chuck decided to make it his occupation and started Raccoon Hollow Antiques. His shop began in the carriage house behind the Unicorn restaurant. When he outgrew that space Chuck moved the business to Route 20. One of the highlights of owning the antique business was selling dining room furniture to the set designer of the movie "Field of Dreams". The pieces of furniture made a brief appearance in the movie. Raccoon Hollow Antiques closed in 2015. Chuck loved trivia, especially anything concerning Freeport. He wrote a monthly column about Freeport trivia called "Remember When" for the Senior Citizen's newspaper The Rolling Stone. Chuck also enjoyed learning about the history of our nation. Family vacations always revolved around something historical, whether it be the White House, Gettysburg, or the Kellogg plant in Michigan. Chuck also loved to read books about former presidents, politics and events. After Chuck retired, he felt the need to volunteer his time. He spent time at the County Health Department. Chuck also volunteered at Voices Bookstore. He was a tremendous advocate for battered and abused women. Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday September 6 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, with a scripture reading at 4:00.
