Charles "Chuck" Franz

Charles “Chuck” Franz, 90, of Freeport, IL passed away Monday April 8, 2024 at Parkview Nursing Home in Freeport. He was born February 24, 1934 in Freeport, the son of Albin and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Leehan) Franz. Chuck served in the United States Army from 1955-1956. On November 8, 1958 he married Helen Tietjen in Stockton, IL. Helen passed away October 17, 2012. Chuck was a traffic manager at Microswitch for 45 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Freeport. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Chuck enjoyed golfing, donuts, and newspapers, especially the sports sections. He was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox. Chuck will be remembered for his unique sense of humor. Most of all, Chuck loved spending time with his family. He loved going to Lake Mills, WI for family gatherings and playing euchre.


He is survived by his four children Steve (Karen) Franz of Aurora, IL, Mary Ann (Mike) Ives of Roscoe, IL, Katherine (Billy) McGinty of Suwanee, GA, and Joe (Peggy) Franz of Geneva, IL; two brothers Bob (Marianne) Franz of Deerfield, IL and Mike Franz of Freeport, IL; two sisters Barb Curry of Freeport, IL and Liz (Steve) Casper of Rockford, IL; and thirteen grandchildren, Patrick Ives, Will McGinty, Alex Ives, Madeline McGinty, Nicolette (Ryan) Johnson, Abigail McGinty, David Franz, Annmarie Franz, Lucy McGinty, Genevieve Franz, Grace Franz, Delia Franz, and Molly Franz.


Preceding Chuck in death are his parents, wife, and brother Lehan Franz.


Funeral mass will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday April 13, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church with Father Peter Snieg officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of mass. There will also be a visitation from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday April 12, 2024 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, with a rosary service beginning at 3:30 P.M. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Chuck’s memory.
