Chansy Neo Thatsanaphon

September 13, 1950 — July 29, 2022

On Friday, July 29th 2022, Chansy Neo Thatsanaphon, loving husband and father of 4 children, passed away peacefully at the age of 71. Chansy was born on September 13, 1950 in Bokeo Huay Xai, Laos to his parents Thongdy and Nou Thatsanaphon. He was the first born out of 18 children. He was young, full of life and had a feisty personality. As an adult he worked construction in Laos. He met his wife Phiou; they fell in love and were married in August of 1972 and had 3 children. This year they would be celebrating 50 years of marriage. During the Vietnam war, Chansy helped his young family flee from Laos to a refugee camp in Thailand. The Thatsanaphon family was sponsored by First Presbyterian Church in Freeport Illinois under a Church World Service Program to the United States in Nov 1979. As a new immigrant to the US, Chansy worked hard to help establish his family's roots in Freeport by taking English classes, starting a job at Micro Switch and purchasing a home in 1984 where they had their 4th child. He faced many health issues, but still continued to be strong and a was fighter. He is absolutely a true hero and loving father. His greatest accomplishment was raising his children and seeing them have families of their own. He enjoyed spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren who called him "Tao." At home he spent much of his time gardening and watching Wheel of Fortune and Thai soap operas with his wife. He loved to go shopping and fix things around the house. He was a man who instilled family values and made sure his family knew the importance of always being there for each other. Chansy is survived by his spouse, Phiou; His children; Somchan and Bill Gilliand, Rassny and Chris Homer, Thongphat Thatsanaphon, Vilay and Josh Marcellis. His grandchildren; Naomi, Mya, Dylan, Melana, Tavien, Joceline, Conlan, Ellie and Beckett; and many brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thongdy and Nou Thatsanaphon. The family would like to express gratitude and thanks to FHN and Ascension Living Saint Joseph for their excellent and compassionate care over the years. Visitation will be from 11am - 1pm Friday, August 5th, 2022 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home. The family will be available to greet friends from noon-1:00 P.M. Followed by a funeral service at 1pm.
