Carrie B. (Davis-Dickens) Herron, 78, of Freeport, died Friday November 26, 2010 at Freeport Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 23, 1932 in Durant, Mississippi, the daughter of Tom Davis and Roberta (Birdie) McGee-Davis. Carrie worked for Stephenson Nursing Center and for Structo, she was also a homemaker. She married William Dickens in 1947 and Udell Herron in 1963 both are deceased. Carrie enjoyed her children and family, she was always surrounded by the neighborhood kids, they all called her 'Aunt Bell' . She like to barbeque and go to the park. She had a green thumb and she loved all her plants and gave them special names. The soap opera Young and the Restless was her favorite. She will miss her special friends Fannie Thomas and Mr. John and Mamie Shipp. Survivors include; one brother, Oscar 'Sunny' Davis in Memphis, two sisters; ILetter Nettles of Freeport, Elsie Thurmond of Minnesota, five sons; Jimmy Dickens of Kansas City, Joseph (Yvonne) Dickens of Georgia, Clarance Dickens of Freeport, Waddell (Vellita) Dickens of Freeport and Perry Herron of Freeport, three daughters; Rebecca Thomas, Joanne (George) Benson and Denise (Quinnon) Garner all of Freeport. Host of grandchildren, great grand-children and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceding Carrie in death are her mother and father, one daughter, Mary Dickens, two brothers, three sisters, one grandchild and one great grandchild and both husbands. Funeral Services will be Saturday 11:00 A.M. at Evangelistic Church of God and Christ. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. A memorial has been established in her memory.
