Carl D Blair, 80, of Freeport passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Lena Living Center in Lena IL.
Carl was born on May 10, 1944, the second son of James and Virginia (Lynch) Blair in Savanna, IL.
After graduating from Sterling High School in 1962, he worked for General Electric in Morrison IL. A few years later he began working for Micro Switch in Freeport as a Principal Design Engineer and also in Marketing. He retired from Honeywell Sensing and Control in the early 2000's, and then worked for a time at Floor to Ceiling in Freeport. While at Honeywell, Carl's designs garnered him multiple US Patents.
Carl and Janice Gahm were married on October 11, 1986.
An avid golfer, Carl enjoyed playing on several leagues as well as a casual round with friends. On June 14, 2006, he hit a hole-in-one on the par 3, 13th hole of Park Hills East Course. He enjoyed watching all football, especially the Bears, gardening and was always ready for a game of cards.
Carl is survived by his wife Janice and his children, Angela (Jay) Lamm of Freeport and Bradley Blair of Parker CO. Also, Karen (Scott) Wootan of Loves Park and Michael (Beth) Eggemeier of Blanchardville Wi, 5 grandchildren, Taylor (Cody) Rogers, Erica Lamm, lan (Jen) Hybarger, Zakk (Karmin) Hybarger and Jake Eggemeier, 7 great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Christoper, Jasmine, Norah, Autumn, Haylee and Brantley, three sisters, Patricia (Phil) Gerbitz and Diana Degroot of Rock Falls, Brenda (Ed) Higley of Mt. Morris, brother Michael (Sharon) Welker of Grand Detour and sister-in-law Paula Baker of Chadwick.
He is predeceased by his parents, brothers James and Donald, and sister Sandra.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Monday December 2, 2024, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport IL with Rev. Ellis Boughton officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport IL.
A memorial has been established for Park Hills Golf Course in Carl's memory.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bennett, the staffs of FHN, Lena Living Center and St. Croix Hospice for their compassion and care.
