Burdette C."Burt" Briggs

Burdette C. "Burt" Briggs, 97 of Freeport died Thursday, August 30 at Manor Court of Freeport. He was born March 7, 1921 in Rockford, Illinois the son of Burt and Marietta (Finch) Briggs. Burt married Verla J. Miller on May 10, 1947 in Freeport. She died March 11, 2017. Mr. Briggs was a WW II Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre. Mr. Briggs was employed in sales and management With I.D.S. and the Offerman Company. Burt was a longtime member of Faith United Methodist Church, where he was involved with many church activities. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Evergreen Lodge and a Shriner. Burt enjoyed singing, fishing, golfing traveling, especially to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Mr. Briggs is survived by his two sons, Steven (Mary) Briggs of German Valley and David (Suzie) Briggs of Libertyville, IL; his daughter, Sandy (Jim) Wolfe of Freeport; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22, 1:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home Freeport; Rev. Larry Thomson will officiate.
