Burdett D. "Jake" Metz

Burdett D. "Jake" Metz, 83, of Freeport, died Tuesday September 13, 2016 in his home. Jake was born on November 27, 1932 in Freeport, the son of Clinton and Dorothy (Reeder) Metz. On August 13, 1955 he married Jeannine J. Smit in Paris, France. Mrs. Metz passed away on September 24, 1986. He worked at Newell for over 39 years and was a farmer. Jake was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, going to the Freeport Raceway, watching NASCAR, following the Chicago Bears, and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are his companion, Nancy Tessendorf; son, Kim (Debbie Watson) Metz of Freeport; two daughters Michelle Metz and Pat McCabe both of Freeport; two sisters, Margaret (Paul) Gitz and Jean Bamberg both of Freeport; seven grandchildren, Vicky (James) Scibor, Jennifer (Nick Baker) McCabe, James (Michelle) McCabe, Brandi (Bryan) Balles, Amber (Jason) Laue, Daniel Orth, and Jackie (Brandon) Tallman. Also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Dolly Bolen; three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday September 19, 2016 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. Gavin Brandt will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday 1:00 - 3:00 at Burke Tubbs.
