The Life of Boston Newton Jr.

Boston Newton Jr. went to his eternal home on Thursday, January 23, 2025, surrounded by love. He was born on September 14,1935, in Webb, Mississippi, to Boston Newton Sr. and Eola Jackson.

From the young age of 8 years old, Boston’s life was defined by hard work and dedication. His formal education was interrupted early as he took on the responsibility of working in the cotton fields to help provide for his siblings. This early sense of duty shaped his work ethic throughout his life.

Boston Jr. arrived in Freeport, Illinois, in 1967 as a dedicated worker and spent many years at Kelly Springfield. Beyond his career, he followed his passions as a beloved neighborhood barber and car enthusiast, often spending his free time working on vehicles.

Boston was first united in marriage to the late Flora Newton. To that union six children were born. Later in life, he married Charlene Newton, and their union of 41 years brought five bonus children into his family.

A man of faith, Boston was an active member of New Jerusalem C.O.G.I.C, where he found fulfillment in worship. He also drew spiritual strength from the teachings and music of Jimmy Swaggart, which brought him comfort.

Boston’s vibrant and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He loved to laugh, hum, and sing, often filling the room with joy.

Boston leaves behind cherished memories. He is survived by his children: Lucy Ree (Donnie) Maupin, Dianna Newton, Cassandra Jamison, Lucinda Lenoir, Boston (Rickey) Newton III, Chevron Newton all of Freeport, Illinois. Evelyn Washington, and Mary Willams, of Rome, Mississippi and Tutwiler, Mississippi. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Robert (Stephanie) McShane of Freeport, Illinois; Eddie Hardy of Sierra Vista, Arizona; Bobbie Hardy of Memphis, Tennessee; Patricia (Michael) Shaw of Statesboro, Georgia; and Tony Hardy of Rockford,Illinois.

He also leaves his siblings: Eola McClellan, Evelyn (Ezell) Jackson, Sam Newton, Lucy (Ronnie) Bush, Rosa Brown, David Newton, Earl Newton, and Leola Collins all of Freeport, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlene Newton; his brothers, Jerry Newton, Charlie Newton, and Emanuel Newton; and his great-grandson, Reason Shirley.

He will be remembered by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, special great-grandson DJ, nieces, nephews, cherished friends, and extended family.
