Billy Joe Horton

Billy Joe Horton, 75, of Freeport, passed away, Wednesday February 1, 2023 at Amberwood Care Centre, Rockford. Billy was born June 6, 1947, in Freeport, the son of William and Lavina (Wickland) Horton. Mr. Horton served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He married Bonnie K. Haring on June 10, 1967, in Elizabeth, Illinois. Billy owned and operated B.J. Horton Building and Remodeling. He was a member of the Freeport Eagles Club #679, Freeport Moose Lodge, Freeport VFW, and the American Legion of Cedarville. Billy really enjoyed spending his free time in the outdoors, fishing and hunting. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Horton of Freeport; daughter, Michelle Baumgartner of Freeport; and son, Robert (Melissa) Horton of Freeport; and five grandchildren, Megan Baumgartner, Samantha Baumgartner, Brady Horton, Bryce Horton, and Nolan Rundall. Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his parents. Private family services were held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial took place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
