Beverly Jean Groenewold, 82, of Forreston, IL, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 to her eternal home. Beverly was born June 15, 1936 in Springfield, IL to Frederick & Florence (Macey) Tengler. Beverly graduated from Springfield High School. She then worked for the Illinois State Women's Parole Board. On November 1, 1959, she married Grant Groenewold and moved to Forreston, IL, where they made their home; He died November 25, 2016. Grant had purchased Groenewold Fur & Wool Co. in 1958 from Grant's father and together Beverly and Grant grew the business. Beverly traveled extensively with Grant, and they developed many personal relationships with trappers and hunters throughout Iowa and Wisconsin. She was never shy to share her faith with these friends. Beverly was devoted to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was a gourmet cook and an impeccable homemaker and gardener. Her devotion and interest in her family was acute until her passing. Mrs. Groenewold was an active member of North Grove Evangelical Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and loved working with youth. Mrs. Groenewold prayed faithfully for members of her church and many friends across the world. Beverly was a leader and counselor at Forreston Vacation Bible School for many summers. She also enjoyed being a mentor through the Forrestville Valley Youth Network. Surviving are her sons Gregory Groenewold of Forreston, IL, Gary (Catherine) Groenewold of Baltimore, MD, Guy (Dawn) Groenewold of Forreston, IL, and daughter Elizabeth (Ekkehard) Schoettle of Lake Forest, IL, grandchildren, Grant S. Groenewold of Polo, IL, Dagmar, Anke & George Schoettle of Lake Forest, IL, Elizabeth (Micah) Orsie & Nicholas (Megan) Groenewold of Baltimore, MD, and Naeva & Christian Groenewold of Forreston, IL, one sister Betty Lawler and sister-in-law Helen Tengler of Springfield, IL, one sister-in-law, Gretchen Korzak of Santa Fe, NM, and one brother-in-law, Gerald (Connie) Groenewold of Grand Forks, ND, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Jean Wubbena, Betty Borgmann and Marcella Ruthe, who were close personal friends to Beverly throughout her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Fred and Harold Tengler, and one sister Margaret Sembell, who helped to raise Beverly in her teen years. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at North Grove Evangelical Church, Forreston. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday July 5, 2018 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Forreston. Burial in North Grove Evangelical Cemetery.
