Bette Ashby Gillespie, 89, a resident of The Village, passed away, October 13, 2013 at Haven Hospice, Gainesville, Florida. She was born November 7, 1923 to James Glen and Mabel Gertrude (Smith) Ashby in Thomson, Illinois. On December 16, 1943 she married Richard A. Gillespie. They moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Richard A. Gillespie. Bette was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, her churhc was very important to her. She was member of the Red Hat Society at the Village and also a member of Jasmine Point Council. She enjoyed watching her TV shows every night, she loved to read, an avid reader, and was a Florida Gator Football fan. She loved her grand dogs especially giving them treats. She is survived by her son, Michael (Anne) Gillespie of Murphy, North Carolina; daughter, Barri (David) Drury of Brookfield, WI.; sisters, Norma Strukhoff of Thomson, IL.; Glenda Spencer of Janesville, WI.; four grandchildren, Neal and Alex Gillespie, Shane (Erik) Homan, Lindsay (Justin) Schweikert and one great-grandson, Andrew Schweikert. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Peace in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport, Illinois. Rev. John Wesley Lee will officiate.
