Bertha M. Thompson

Bertha M. Thompson, 99, of Freeport, died Thursday May 19, 2016 at the Stephenson Nursing Center. Bertha was born May 13, 1917 in Brookville, Illinois, the daughter of William and Agnes (Creitze) Kruse. She married Glen H. Thompson on May 5, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa. Mr. Thompson died April 25, 1989. Bertha worked at Burgess Battery for 30 years. She enjoyed mowing and cooking. Surviving are son Laverne (Ingrid) Thompson of Freeport; daughter LaVonne (Kenneth) Wagenknecht of Freeport; two daughter-in-laws Nancy Thompson and Virginia Thompson; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sons, one sister, three brothers, and three grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday May 21, 2016 in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport.
