Bernice J. Kampen

Bernice J. Kampen, 96, of Freeport, passed away, Wednesday June 1, 2022, at Ascension Living Saint Joseph Center. Bernice was born August 20, 1925, in Stephenson County, Illinois, the daughter of Bernard and Pearl (Voss) Ackerman. Bernice married Samuel Kampen September 29, 1958, in Adeline, Illinois. Mr. Kampen passed away February 5, 1992. Bernice was very proud of her 25-year nursing career. Caring for patients for 16 years at Freeport Memorial Hospital and then moving to Parkview Home for the final 9 years. In her free time, Bernice, enjoyed reading, working on crossword puzzles, watching sports on television, and being around animals. Surviving are sister-in-law, Phyllis Ackerman of Freeport; two nephews, Larry Ackerman and Dwayne Ackerman; two nieces, Mary Ackerman and Linda Graper; cousin, Norma Jean Davis; also surviving are several other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Allan and Marion Ackerman. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday June 8, 2022, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. Dawn Barr will officiate. Visitation 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Burke Tubbs. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Bernice's memory.
